The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that every child be evaluated by the age of 7 and while some children will benefit dramatically by having treatment at this age, some kids will benefit more by waiting for more growth and development and others can benefit from an early orthodontic treatment. An orthodontist can spot subtle problems with jaw growth and emerging teeth while some baby teeth are still present.
An early exam may reveal that your child's bite is fine. Or, that your child is developing a problem, but recommend monitoring the growth and developing of your child. In other cases, Dr. Ibrahim might find a problem that can benefit from early treatment.
Early treatment may prevent or intercept more serious problems from developing and may make treatment at a later age shorter and less complicated. In some cases Dr. Ibrahim will be able to achieve results that may not be possible once the face and jaw have finished growing.
The benefits of early treatment:
- Improve the relationship of upper and lower jaws
- Guide jaw growth
- Lower the risk of trauma to protruded front teeth
- Correct harmful oral habits
- Improve facial appearance
- Guide permanent teeth into a more favorable position
- May avoid extraction of permanent teeth at a later date
Patients differ in both treatment needs and physiological development, Dr. Ibrahim's goal is to provide each patient with the most appropriate treatment at the best appropriate time.
